The word ‘swerve’ became famous in the late 90s and early 2000s, with the smart fans understanding the nuances of the business, and were intrigued by the anything – can – happen product that was made famous during the Attitude Era. Vince Russo in particular was a fan of swerves, in an attempt to keep the audience guessing. While it did have the instantaneous shock value, overdoing it soon led to the audience getting tired of the shenanigans, and promoters understood the importance of using swerves sporadically, so as to keep the fans on the edge of their seats.
